NYT publishes video by Martin Schoeller featuring testimonials from several patients who have been devastated by surprise medical billing.

The New York Times and Award-winning photographer Martin Schoeller released a hard-hitting short documentary film titled “How Much Does Your MRI Cost? Buy it First to Find Out,” featuring patients, including Boston Marathon Bombing Survivor Adrianne Haslet, who suffer financial hardships created by an out-of-control healthcare system that keeps patients blind to see prices in advance. The film highlights how 86% of U.S. hospitals are raking in profits while keeping their prices hidden, and the government agencies tasked with enforcing price transparency rules continue to look the other way.

Martin’s reflections include timely observations affecting millions of people across the country: “Especially in a time of soaring inflation and economic uncertainty, we need robust enforcement of the Hospital Price Transparency Rule by the US Department of Health & Human Services and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid to protect patients from a healthcare system that continues to put profits over patients.”

Prices are now a patient's right, and we must demand them.
